. 💛 Some chapters aren’t ending. They’re just comp . 💛 Some chapters aren’t ending. They’re just complete. It began when a magazine feature that started on Instagram changed how I saw myself as an artist. Since then, I’ve shown at Santa Fe Indian Market, exhibited at the Muskegon Museum of Art and the Chicago expo, won top awards, and been featured on PBS. My work has been collected across the United States and Canada. What you don’t see are the early mornings, the long drives, and the van packed to the roof. My kids did homework in the booth. They helped me set up and tear down. They gave up school days so I could chase this dream, and I’ll never forget it. I did it all as a single parent, with my kids beside me, and I learned that you can build something real while raising kids at the same time. Now my kids are young adults, and my youngest is a senior this year. I want to celebrate their next chapter, and everything we’ve accomplished together. For years, being on the road at markets was an exhausting grind. It meant time away from my studio, a website I never had time for, and little to no vacation with my kids. I’ve also been the whole team: the painter, the webmaster, the marketing department, the shipping desk, and customer service, all in one. I’m proud of that, and I’m ready for something simpler. I want deeper connections with my family and loved ones, and with the collectors who have supported my work. So I sent out my first newsletter last week, and I’d love for you to join me.Thank you to everyone who bought a painting, stopped to chat, or cheered me on. Year ten is a new beginning, and my new series, Social Justice and Resilience, is on its way.#nativeamericanart #artformywalls Sign up for my newsletter through the link in my bio, and tell me in the comments: where did you first find my work?
Happy indigenous peoples day. Today my daughter as Happy indigenous peoples day. Today my daughter asked me if it feels like indigenous peoples day. I paused at this question. Then I said. It’s indigenous peoples day everyday. We both laughed 🤣🤣🤣 iykyk
A few years ago, this painting hung at the Center A few years ago, this painting hung at the Center for Native Future gallery, and I still think about the moment it captures.I grew up going to powwows. In my teens, they became the place where I started to understand who I was, outside of the culture my peers lived in. It wasn’t always easy. I felt caught between worlds, and for a long time I thought the answer was to become a dancer. But the longer I watched, the more I realized what pulled me wasn’t being in the circle. It was honoring it: the energy, the movement, the beauty of our regalia. Painting became my way of staying in that world and building a life as an Indigenous person on my own terms, not the terms this country hands us.This piece is of a dancer I deeply respect, who generously trusted me to paint him. Every brushstroke is my thank you.If this speaks to you, here’s how you can support Native art: 36x36 oil on canvas 🤎 Follow along for more of my work🤎 Share this with someone who loves powwow culture🤎 Tell me in the comments what you feel when you see it#NativeArt #PowwowCulture #IndigenousArtist #ContemporaryNativeArt
If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been, I’m here If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been, I’m here, just working behind the scenes. 🎨The last few months have looked like this: long hours at the computer, paintings on the easel, flowers from my garden on the table, and a studio view I’m grateful for every day.I’m a freelance artist, not a full-time content creator, and that means I’m also the business owner, the bookkeeper, the marketer, and the one making the work. I’ve also got a rising senior at home, so I’m helping her get ready to launch while I rethink and grow my own studio. Lots of change, in the best way.I’m taking the time to rethink every part of who I am as an artist and what I want this business to be. I’m excited to share what’s coming.More soon. Thank you for sticking with me. 💛 #artistofinstagram #nativeamericanart #mompreneur
