Happy indigenous peoples day. Today my daughter asked me if it feels like indigenous peoples day. I paused at this question. Then I said. It’s indigenous peoples day everyday. We both laughed 🤣🤣🤣 iykyk

A few years ago, this painting hung at the Center for Native Future gallery, and I still think about the moment it captures.I grew up going to powwows. In my teens, they became the place where I started to understand who I was, outside of the culture my peers lived in. It wasn’t always easy. I felt caught between worlds, and for a long time I thought the answer was to become a dancer. But the longer I watched, the more I realized what pulled me wasn’t being in the circle. It was honoring it: the energy, the movement, the beauty of our regalia. Painting became my way of staying in that world and building a life as an Indigenous person on my own terms, not the terms this country hands us.This piece is of a dancer I deeply respect, who generously trusted me to paint him. Every brushstroke is my thank you.If this speaks to you, here’s how you can support Native art: 36x36 oil on canvas 🤎 Follow along for more of my work🤎 Share this with someone who loves powwow culture🤎 Tell me in the comments what you feel when you see it#NativeArt #PowwowCulture #IndigenousArtist #ContemporaryNativeArt

If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been, I’m here

If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been, I’m here, just working behind the scenes. 🎨The last few months have looked like this: long hours at the computer, paintings on the easel, flowers from my garden on the table, and a studio view I’m grateful for every day.I’m a freelance artist, not a full-time content creator, and that means I’m also the business owner, the bookkeeper, the marketer, and the one making the work. I’ve also got a rising senior at home, so I’m helping her get ready to launch while I rethink and grow my own studio. Lots of change, in the best way.I’m taking the time to rethink every part of who I am as an artist and what I want this business to be. I’m excited to share what’s coming.More soon. Thank you for sticking with me. 💛 #artistofinstagram #nativeamericanart #mompreneur

A collector I met years ago just came back with a request I didn’t expect.Back in 2018-2019, they bought one of my very first pieces — right as I was returning to art after years away raising my kids. Now they’re back for a companion piece. My style has evolved a lot since then, but instead of asking for “more of the same,” they said: “I trust you. Make what you make now.”That kind of trust is rare. It’s exactly what lets an artist grow instead of repeat themselves.Grateful for collectors who buy the artist, not just the piece. 🎨👉 Ready to start your own piece? Commission slots are open — DM me for details. #artistmom #commissionsopen #nativeamericanart
